[Poll #842314]

SORRY GUYS, A MINOR ERROR IN THE POLL FORCED US TO START OVER! IF YOU VOTED BEFORE, FEEL FREE TO DO SO AGAIN!

We're planning on doing a "Writing Prompts" activity, every other month. Each time, we'll present a list of choices so that the members can vote, and we'll do the top TWO! The choices, this month are as follows...

Autumn:

Many animal people seem to relate strongly to specific seasons. We have arrived at Autumn. What does it represent to you? What does it trigger and mean to you from an animal perspective? What does it inspire to you? Etc.

Gods/spirituality:

How do you integrate "being an animal person" in your beliefs, how do you relate to gods, totems, spirituality and/or mythology as an animal person, how do you relate to various the tales/folklore you know about your animal and such. You don't have to be a spiritual person to write on this theme (about the folklore bit, as an example).

Fire:

Fire, fireworks, those have always fascinated humans, and have often scared animals around us. Fire seems to be half-natural, half-sacred. Maybe it isn't anything special to you, but if it is, how do you relate to this "element"?

Music/art:

No matter if you are a synesthete or not, maybe you relate to sound and images in a specific way from your animal perspective. Care to share with us your experience of "art/music" as an animal person? Is there any music that triggers something in you animality-wise? Let's be inspired and talk about it.

Digital realm:

"I always find the internet and computers really fascinating, and in certain circumstances I feel a connection to the digital realm I'd relate to my animalness - sometimes it's good, or bad." What place have computers in your life, how fo you relate to them as an animal person, and possibly how important is the (internet) access to other animal people and therian places to you (purely on its own, and then perhaps also in relation to whether or not you can meet other animal people in real life).

Meeting the animal:

Have you ever been face to face with a member of the species you are inside? What did it feel like, how would you describe this experience?

Earliest memories:

Tell us about the earliest memories you have relating to your animalself, and how different/similar it was from the way you experience the animal and live with it nowadays.

Home:

"Our human home and the home in our minds (dens, caves, etc) and how we feel about these living places. What you imagine your dream home to be, if you ever dream of a place, anything. If you currently live in an urban/rural situation, do you or do you not feel more at home? Do you wish you lived in a different circumstance, and why?" How you relate to your home land, what is your ideal home land like as an animel person, etc.

Senses:

"When I listen, my ears capture sound as a three dimensional thing, much like my eyes do. This depth of orientation in the world is different from how human feels it should be. Scent and sensation and sound are all part of the world around me, and sight take a back seat when my eyes are wolf's eyes and my mind wolf's mind instead of both human and wolf."

Perspectives:

"This is more a question to the relation of predator/prey-type inclinations, both by therians and as they relate to other non-animal people. How do you see the beings in the world around you, from your perspective behind the eyes of an animal instead of a person?" Other difference in perspective can be developped as well, such as territoriality. Note that "senses" is a theme on its own, see above.

Representation of self:

"So many people try to draw there animal selves, or to dress in a way that portrays their animal-ness. How do you discover what animal-you actually looks like? Dreams, meditations, phantom sensations, or do you develop a creative representation of yourself?"

Yay!

We'll give the results at the end of October/beginning of November for the writing prompt to start. :) People can still suggest more themes in this entry (http://community.livejournal.com/animal_quills/12304.html) for the next prompts.

I'd love to write about autumn, but I'm afraid I wouldn't find the connection between the season and the animal. As a human I enjoy the aesthetic side of autumn and love the atmosphere, but cats just shed some hair and smell changing scents. Of course it could be more on topic with an animal that has phases dependant on changing seasons.

So, as an artist, I voted for Represantion of self. The importance of "tr00 l00ks" amongst animal people (especially the new therians) has always interested me.

I went ahead and voted for "Gods/Spirituality," since my animalness actually plays quite a large part in how I relate to my patron deity. I already have a short piece written on the subject that I may post if this topic is chosen (or even sometime later), but I'd like to explore it deeper, as difficult as it can be to articulate sometimes.

I also leaned toward "Digital Realm" and "Fire." I feel strongly connected to Fire, but passed on that due to how hard it can be to elaborate on an elemental bond. The importance (or unimportance) of finding other animal people and connecting with them is another subject I find interesting, but as I'm going through a somewhat confusing growth process on that score (i.e., rarely visiting "mainstream" therian boards, but frequenting circles such as these), I passed on that as well. Regardless, I'll probably write on both of these subjects at some point in the future, and really, all of these ideas were excellent. I always love it when it's hard to choose from a list of writing prompts. :)

Animal Quills

The Gist of It

Animal Quills is a creative community for animal-people to share and discuss their written works. Over a hundred essays are archived here (many of which in locked entries). We focus on the concrete "here and now" experience of being animal inside, and other related musings (see our About page if you want to post).
